It also has a cutting edge on the inside of the sickle which can be used to trim interproximally or to shave the facial surface of the tooth if it is laid flat against the surface and gently moved across the tooth plane. it is also helpfull for shaping the proximal lingual angles of the teeth when it is placed against the surface, using the back of the sickle and moving it toward the interproximal of the tooth.
